How we use your details

Who we are

Bland & Co Jewellers (“we”, “us”) is a jeweller in Hatton Garden, London EC1N. We decide how the details you give us through this website are used, which makes us the “controller” under UK data protection law.

Bland & Co Jewellers is currently run as a partnership. We're setting up a limited company, and once we have, we'll name it here.

What we collect

When you send an enquiry through this website, we receive:

• Your answers, such as whether you're buying or selling, what the item is, its condition, your budget and your timing.
• Your contact details: your name, mobile number, email address, how you'd like us to get in touch, and anything you add in the notes.
• Any photos you choose to add. Please only photograph the items. Phones can store the location a photo was taken. We remove this from most photos before they're sent, but we can't guarantee it for every type of file.
• How you found us: the tags on the link you followed (for example, that it came from one of our Instagram posts), the website that sent you, and the page you arrived on.
• Basic technical information. The company that hosts the site keeps standard server logs, such as your IP address and browser type, to keep it running and secure.

This website doesn't use cookies or advertising trackers.

Counting visits

We use Vercel Web Analytics to count visits and see which questions people reach, so we can tell which questions people give up on. It doesn't use cookies, doesn't save anything on your device, and can't identify you: visits are grouped using a temporary code that's thrown away after 24 hours.

It records the page you're on, the website that sent you, your rough location (such as the city), and your type of device and browser. It never receives your answers, contact details or photos.

What's saved on your phone

So you don't lose your place if you leave halfway through, your answers and contact details are saved in your browser on your own device for up to 7 days. They're cleared as soon as you send your enquiry, and you can clear them at any time in your browser settings. Photos aren't saved this way. Nothing saved on your phone reaches us until you press send.

How we use it, and why we're allowed to

• To reply to your enquiry with a quote or options, to email you a copy of what you sent, and to arrange next steps. We do this because you've asked us to, before any deal is agreed.
• To understand which of our posts and adverts bring enquiries, and where people give up, so we can improve the site and know where to spend our time. We do this because we have a legitimate interest in running the business sensibly, and it has very little effect on you.
• To meet our legal obligations if you go ahead and buy or sell with us. For example, we may need to check your identity and keep records for anti-money laundering rules, and keep accounts for tax.

We won't send you marketing unless you separately agree to it, and we never sell your details.

Who sees your details

Only our team, and the services we use to run the business, which handle your details on our behalf:

• the company that hosts this website, stores enquiries and photos, and counts visits (Vercel)
• the service that emails each enquiry to us, and your copy to you (Resend)
• our email provider (Google), as enquiries arrive in our inbox
• WhatsApp (Meta), if you choose to talk to us there

We may also share details with professional advisers, or with the police, courts or regulators, where the law requires it.

Outside the UK

Some of these services, including Vercel, Resend and Google, may handle your details in other countries such as the United States. Where they do, the transfer is protected by UK government adequacy regulations or approved data protection contracts.

How long we keep it

• If your enquiry doesn't go any further, we delete your details and photos within 12 months of our last contact.
• Photos stored by this website are deleted automatically 12 months after they're added.
• If you buy or sell with us, we keep the records the law requires, normally for 6 years after the deal.

Keeping it safe

The site is only available over a secure connection. Photos are stored privately and can only be opened through private links that we give to the team handling your enquiry.

Your rights

You can ask us to:

• give you a copy of the details we hold about you
• correct anything that's wrong
• delete your details
• stop or limit how we use them, or object to us using them
• send your details to you, or to someone else, in a usable format

Complaints

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your details, please tell us first so we can put it right. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

Age

This website is for people aged 18 and over.

Changes

If we change how we use your details, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
